Shakespeare wrote, “some are born great, some people achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.” To say I was thrust into “greatness” would be a gross understatement of the pain and trauma caused by my separation and divorce. However, without the violent push from the universe to get me out of the place I was, I would not have found the purpose to which I am now working – Walking Space.
In my recovery and rediscovery of myself, the 500-mile walk to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain taught me to value and love myself in a way I had not experienced since childhood. Having this clean slate and life-shattering experience no longer crippled me but became more like an adventure and a thrill. My separation no longer defined me, it propelled me. My shame and insecurity vanished under the stars and skies of Spain and with my fellow pilgrims while walking for 30 days – there is no place to hide from yourself out there. Walking healed me.
My work now is to give the same sort of space and time to others who have this gapping hole in their lives and are either stuck in it or can’t see how to fill it. Walking, methodically, slowly, in nature, for days, doesn’t FILL that hole – it illuminates it. The light will show what’s there and help you to transform it into something that comes from you – genuine, new (or old), personal – and to move forward in health and happiness in the way you yourself have discovered. The magic of walking in this way cannot be understated. This experience is not reserved for “special” or “chosen” people. Anyone can make the choice to move beyond their “broken records” and trauma and capture their child-like spirit again – and it can happen HERE. Join us for a walk and rediscover, reconnect, and reinvent.
